Welcome to WAMATA

Welcome to the WAMATA website. Thank you for your interest in our work. We are happy to share with you and hope you will be equally happy to learn about WAMATA.

Please find the basic introduction below and other information throughout the website via the links above.

What is WAMATA?

WAMATA is an acronym for the Swahili phrase "Walio katika mapambano na AIDS Tanzania," which means "People in the Fight Against AIDS in Tanzania." We registered as the first HIV/AIDS non-governmental organization in Tanzania in 1990. We have grown extensively without losing our grassroots feel. There are now 19 branches throughout Tanzania.

We employ a multifaceted strategy to reach individuals and families infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, and by doing so help them in their personal struggle and help in the overall fight against HIV/AIDS in Tanzania.

Mission Statement

To minimize social, psychological and economic effects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic through prevention efforts and a forum of support for people who are infected or affected.
